NAME

fp_get_byte_size - Determines the size of a file in bytes.

DESCRIPTION

This uses that fstat(2) system call, so the FILE structure *fp is not altered by this function call. In particular, the file offset is not altered (in contrast to that other popular way to find file size, using fseek and ftell). Output size is returned in location *size_ptr. This function is not re-entrant (i.e., not thread-safe).

RETURNS

NO_ERROR on success, ERROR on failure, with an appropriate error message being set.
