DESCRIPTION
This routine plots the curve implied by liking the points whose X-ordinates
are in the argument "x_vp" and whoese Y-ordinates are in the argument "y_vp"
RETURNS
NO_ERROR on success, and ERROR on failure, with an error message being
set.
