DESCRIPTION

The method to print underlined text is the same as that used by nroff to format text which is underlined both on the printed page, and on the screen. (Some tools, on some systems, convert this to bold). This function is not re-entrant (i.e., not thread-safe).

RETURNS

The number of characters output, which is three for every character in the input string sucessfully dealt with. This is a bit confusing, since the return is not general the length of buff, but it is the more "proper" return. The output should be properly paged if the output is the terminal. (I have not tested this, however, as the usual use of this routine is to build man pages).
