search_sorted_word_list - Searches a sorted word list for a given string

DESCRIPTION
The routine searches a sorted word list for a given string. If it is not
there, it returns NOT_FOUND. Otherwise, it returns the index of where it was
found.
RETURNS
NOT_FOUND if the string is not in the word list (including the case where
the word list in NULL, or the index where it is found.
WARNING
If the list is NOT sorted, this routine will not work.
